Production diary

 18/01/22

Today we began filming our podcast. We went into the studio and set up the equipment which included logging into the apple mac in the studio and opening logic pro to record the audio on. In terms of microphones we used a RODE NR1A which is a microphone that a lot of people tend to use for podcasts.

The guests and I had a conversation beforehand to make sure we knew what we were going to talk about and the order in which we were going to talk about each topic. It was very loosely scripted in the way that the intro and outro were written up but the rest was more or less unscripted, we had a list of things to talk about but we didn't have specific things within the topic written down since we wanted to create a natural conversation as we felt that would be more entertaining.

We did a few takes to make sure the microphones were set to the right level and weren't peaking and to make sure the audio was adequate. 

The issues that occurred during the recording is that a music student came in to get a microphone stand as they are kept in the room we were recording in but he spoke a lot during the recording and there really isn't enough time to rerecord as editing can take a long time and other priorities that cannot be rearranged so a lot of clips from the recording will have to be cut.

21/01/22

In todays session, I plan on beginning the production aspect of the smile campaign. I will be recording scene one which is set in a classroom. The point of the scene is to convey a feeling of stress, the kind of stress that students feel considering my target audience is students. To complete the filming process for this scene I will need a camera, SD card and tripod; I have my own SD card and I will be borrowing a camera and tripod from college and will return them as soon as I have completed multiple takes of the necessary shot. The shot I'm aiming to attain is an eye level shot taken from the side to make the viewer feel as though they are on the same level as the student and show that there is no superiority of inferiority being portrayed here.

Yesterday I filmed multiple takes of the first scene (classroom scene). I will be showing some of the takes that didn't go as well and that I won't be using in my final product to give examples of how things can go wrong and also to show that I put in effort and filmed multiple takes to get the shot exactly how I want it. If I have time after filming the second shot I may refilm the classroom scene although it isn't completely necessary to refilm it I'm considering doing it just to get the best possible shot I can.

24/01/22

Today I aim to film the second and final scene of the advert. This scene will be set in the college studio. For this scene I will need a camera, SD card and tripod like before and I will also need a green screen, I can acquire all of this from college except for SD card which I already have. The point of the scene is to show the thing that makes the character smile which in this case is music. The shot is going to be another eye level shot but from more of a distance so you can see what the character is doing.

I completed multiple takes of the shot and it turned out pretty well however I'm concerned that the lighting may be a little too dark and that could make the green screen harder to edit so I may have to reshoot it but I'm not sure that I have time so I may have to stick to having a green background.
